Boston Marathon bombing survivor Haslet to keynote
Boston Marathon bombing survivor Adrianne Haslet will share her story of courage and resilience during the Bellin Run’s 2020 Kids for Running and Corporate Challenge kickoff events March 3 and 4 at Green Bay Distillery, 835 Mike McCarthy Way.
Haslet lost her left leg below the knee in the terrorist bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon. A full-time professional ballroom dancer at the peak of her career, Adrianne has had to learn a new meaning for the word patience as she rises to meet her daily challenges head on. In the years since the marathon attack, she has become an inspiration to thousands, returning to the competitive dance floor and running the 2016 and 2018 Boston Marathons.
“Adrianne Haslet embodies an incredible resilient spirit that will inspire our Kids for Running coaches and Corporate Challenge captains as they spearhead efforts to get feet on the street in the name of health and wellness,” said Bellin Run Executive Race Director Randy Van Straten. “We can’t wait to welcome her and hear her amazing story.”
The Bellin Run Kids for Running program provides school-based training for area youth to prepare for and ultimately complete the 10K (6.2-mile) Bellin Run. Kids for Running coaches hold training sessions two to three times weekly, providing the structure and motivation necessary for their young athletes to go the distance on race day. Last year, the Kids for Running program drew 1,050 students, staff and family members from 68 area elementary schools.
Registration and dinner for the Kids for Running kickoff event begin at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at Green Bay Distillery, with the program beginning at 6.
