Online registration for Bellin Run available now

December 27, 2010

Before the New Year’s Eve ball drops, those pondering what resolutions to make for 2011 can at least get a bit of a head start on their vows to enhance their personal fitness and physical activity levels, thanks to the Bellin Run.

That’s because online registration for the annual run/walk event is available now.

Offering online registration in time for the first day of the new year is a plus, said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run executive race director.

“We’re helping the public keep health and fitness top of mind during a period when many New Year’s resolutions are focused on getting fit, reducing weight and making healthier lifestyle choices,” Van Straten said. “Giving the public the option to register for the Bellin Run before the first day of the year, allows potential participants to commit early to the run, set a participation goal – like a specific finishing time or just completing the run – and begin training toward achieving that goal.”

The 35th annual Bellin Run is scheduled to take place at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 11. The 6.2-mile run/walk traditionally takes place on the second Saturday of June.

Runners, walkers and wheelchair participants can register before January 1 by visiting www.bellinrun.com. All registrants receive an official 2011-style Bellin Run T-shirt.

Adult online registration for the 2011 event is $18 through Tuesday, May 15. Online registration closes after Thursday, June 9.

There are benefits to signing up early for the Bellin Run, beyond helping to cement New Year’s resolutions related to health, physical fitness and weight loss, Van Straten said.

“Registration costs will increase slightly the closer we get to race day,” he said. “It’s just another factor to consider when deciding when to sign up.”

The 2010 Bellin Run recorded 18,393 registrants – the largest registration field ever for the event.
