Program Gets Patients on Road for Bellin Run

May 5, 2010

Bellin Health rehabilitation patients will be celebrating their recovery journey on Saturday, June 12 as invited guests of the 34th annual Bellin Run Back to the Road Crew team.

Patients who participated in Bellin’s Joints for Life, Cardiac Rehab or the Bellin Inpatient Rehabilitation programs will have the option of walking or running a shortened 1-mile route of the Bellin Run course or completing the entire 10K (6.2 miles).

The invite-only Back to the Road Crew program gets orthopedic, cardiac rehab and general rehab patients active again after medical treatment.

The program, hosted by Bellin Health, welcomed more than 250 participants during the 2009 Bellin Run.

“The Back to the Road Crew offers another opportunity for us to make the Bellin Run more inclusive,” said Becky Barrett, Back to the Road Crew program coordinator. “Any venture that gives more people the chance to participate in the Bellin Run – which is one of the area’s largest mass participatory events – regardless of ability level, is a welcomed addition to this community event.”

The Bellin Run drew 16,746 registrants last year – a Bellin Run record. It also was ranked as the fourth-largest 10K road race in the United States. The run event, which traditionally draws more than 90 percent of its registrants from across Northeast Wisconsin, has experienced growth in each of the last five years.
