Bellin Run is the nation’s 4th largest timed 10k race
GREEN BAY— Last year’s record number of 12,908 Bellin Run participants put Green Bay on the map of top running events. The local 10K (6.2 mile) run/walk enters the 2008 running season as the fourth largest timed 10K race in the nation.
“The Bellin Run has grown and developed over the years into the fitness event that it has become today,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run race director. “New runners, walkers and families come out each year to enjoy the atmosphere, and we’re excited about another record breaking year of participation.”
To accommodate the increased participation, Bellin Run race officials are taking steps to ensure a safe and exciting race for 2008. New features to the run/walk include reconfigured start and finish line layouts, designated corrals based on pace and the addition of a stroller division for parents.
Only three timed 10K races surpassed the 2007 Bellin Run in terms of participation:
- Bolder Boulder (Boulder, CO)
- Cooper River Bridge Run (Charleston, SC)
- Ukrop's Monument Avenue (Richmond, VA)
- Bellin Run (Green Bay, WI)
“The Bellin Run is a great event for so many reasons, but it’s the local participation that sets it above others,” commented Van Straten. “Each year, new faces join in the fun and excitement at the starting line to promote healthier lifestyles in our communities. At the heart of it all, that’s really what the Bellin Run is all about.”
