Bellin Run to offer shuttle service

Easing congestion is one of main focuses for 2008 race

To improve the potential inconvenience of having to try to find a parking spot, the Bellin Run will be offering a free shuttle service as part of this year’s race.

The shuttle service will pick up people from Shopko’s East Town Mall parking lot, at 2430 E. Mason St. Those using the shuttle will be dropped off at Baird Place Park, which is adjacent to the Bellin Run’s start/finish line area.

“With more than 15,000 expected registrants, we understand how difficult trying to find a parking spot and getting from one place to another can be,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run race director. “By offering the bus services on the day of the race and reorganizing the starting line, participants can focus on what’s most important—the race.”

The buses will pick up people every 15 minutes beginning at 6:30 a.m. After the race, shuttle buses will take people back to the Shopko parking lot from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

This year’s Bellin Run starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. In addition to services like the shuttle buses, Bellin Run race officials have also reconfigured the starting line and finish lines to accommodate the race’s large growth.

“With so many people in one area, safety for everyone involved is our number one priority,” said Van Straten. “By adding more space to the start and finish line and by introducing a shuttle bus service, we can be confident that runners, volunteers, spectators and neighbors will be able to maneuver easily – and safety – on and around the race route.”

The Bellin Run, a 10K (6.2 mile) run/walk in Green Bay, Wis., is the fourth-largest timed 10K race in the nation with 12,908 participants. Established in 1977, the Bellin Run features elite runners, a children’s run, corporate challenge, running expo, all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner and a number of other events and activities for runners and their families.

This year’s 32nd annual Bellin Run is June 14, 2008. For more information, or to register, go to: www.bellinrun.com.
