New, cool feature added to 10K course
GREEN BAY — Bellin Run participants are guaranteed to hit the end of the course feeling cooler and more energized than before thanks to a new misting wall sponsored by Oneida Casino.
The wall of mist, called the Oneida Casino Misting Machine, will cool down the throng of runners, walkers, wheelchair participants and others on the last leg of the Bellin Run. The water is sure to give participants an invigorating burst of energy as they near the finish.
“The home stretch can be pretty tough,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run race director. “That’s why we’re excited to offer this new feature to the race, and we hope the participants will enjoy it.”
The Oneida Casino Misting Machine will arch across the street. Participating runners and walkers can pass under the sprays of mist on Clay Street near Astor Park as they near the finish line. Those who want to avoid the mist can simply stay to the left to keep dry. All participants can expect to be cheered on from members of the Oneida Casino Encouragement Team posted atop the Misting Machine towers.
“The cheering spectators, the anticipation of the finish – they’re all motivators,” Van Straten said. “This unique addition to the Bellin Run will be that extra push to a rewarding finish.”
The Bellin Run will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 14. More than 15,000 participants are expected. This year’s finish line will be in the same location as the start of the race on Webster Avenue in front of Bellin Hospital. The change was made to accommodate the success and growth of the Bellin Run over the past few years.
“It’s the same great race but with noticeable improvements – like the Oneida Casino Misting Machine – which have been designed to better enhance the experience and meet the needs of our race day participants,” said Van Straten.
The Bellin Run, a 10K (6.2 mile) run/walk in Green Bay, Wis., is the fourth-largest timed 10K race in the nation with 12,908 participants. Established in 1977, the Bellin Run features elite runners, a children’s run, corporate challenge, running expo, all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner and a number of other events and activities for runners and their families.
