Schneider National Foundation is first time sponsor for Kids for Running
Wipfli sponsors Corporate Challenge
GREEN BAY—Two local companies are stepping up to support healthy lifestyles in Northeast Wisconsin. Schneider National Foundation is the first-time sponsor of this year’s Bellin Run Kids for Running program. The Corporate Challenge will once again be sponsored by Wipfli.
"The Bellin Run is all about getting active and living a healthier lifestyle,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run race director. “The Schneider National Foundation and Wipfli have both been strong supporters of these initiatives, and the Bellin Run is very fortunate to have them as sponsors of this year’s programs."
With Schneider National’s 25th and grand finale Family Fitness Event last year, joining the Bellin Run in their efforts to promote healthier lifestyles to area kids has been a great transition. "We were looking for an event that would continue the spirit of the Schneider Family Fitness event," said LuEllen Oskey, administrator of the Schneider National Foundation. "The Kids for Running program, with its focus on encouraging kids in our community to get active and healthy, is a perfect fit."
A participant of the Bellin Run’s Corporate Challenge since 2004, Wipfli will be the main sponsor of the event for the second year in a row.
"Wipfli and our employees have been strong supporters of the Bellin Run, and we’re excited to be able to participate as runners, walkers and the sponsor for the Corporate Challenge," said Ken Krueger, partner in charge of Wipfli’s Eastern Region.
The goal of the Kids for Running and Corporate Challenge programs is to get people prepared for running or walking the Bellin Run on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Last year, more than 2,500 kids from 30 different schools participated in the Kids for Running program. Participation in the Corporate Challenge topped 65 companies with more than 3,000 employees. Both programs are an important aspect of Bellin Run’s continued growth. In 2007, almost 13,000 runners and walkers participated in the 10K event.
The Kids for Running and Corporate Challenge programs will kickoff with informational meetings featuring running icon Frank Shorter. Shorter was the first Bellin Run champion in 1977 after earning a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics and a silver medal in the 1976 games.
The Kids for Running kickoff event will be Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Green Bay Health & Athletic Performance Center, 1630 Commanche Ave., Ashwaubenon. The Corporate Challenge kickoff will take place at the same location on Friday, February 8, 2008 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
