Scott Ronsmans combined personal determination with second-to-none support to complete his slowest — but perhaps most meaningful — Bellin Run to date. Here, in his words, is Scott’s story:
The Bellin Run. It is the most exciting race I've ever done, and I've done hundreds.
Several years ago, I was diagnosed with severe asthma. Shortly after my diagnosis and before the right combination of medicines/treatments, I did the race. My dear friend Kelly was with me. I was breathing with the help of a portable oxygen tank. I had to stop at least two dozen times in order to catch my breath. Along the way, other participants were so kind and concerned for me — "Are you ok?" "You can do it!", etc.
With Kelly's help and my determination, I finished the race in under three hours. That's absolutely my slowest time before or since.
But I can't miss the Bellin Run. Ever.
