Make it Your Goal to Do the Bellin Run

April 25, 2012

There are lots of reasons to do the Bellin Run. It could be a simple fitness goal, an event completed in honor of a loved one, part of a friendly bet or just something to scratch off the bucket list. If you haven’t committed to doing the run/walk yet, why not make it your goal to do so?

The 36th annual Bellin Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The 10K (6.2-mile) run/walk winds through the city of Green Bay and the village of Allouez.

“People find motivation in a number of different ways. There is no right or wrong reason to participate in the Bellin Run,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run executive race director. “What is important is harnessing that motivation, and actually achieving your goal.

“If you are struggling to find your motivation or a reason to get out of your comfort zone and participate in this annual event, tell everyone you know that you plan to participate in the Bellin Run,” Van Straten said. “Friends and family members can help you stick to your goal.”

The Bellin Run welcomes participants of all skill levels – world-class competitors as well as recreational runners, wheelchair racers and walkers. If it is your first time, you are in good company. On average 40 percent of Bellin Run participants are first-timers translating to nearly 7,000 first-timers last year.

“The Bellin Run is such a versatile event; it doesn’t matter if this is your first time running it or your 36th,” said Van Straten. “What makes this race special is it’s a community of people coming together for the common purpose of improving their overall health, wellness and fitness.

“We want people to find their motivation, get their feet on the street and join us on June 9, to celebrate their accomplishments with the community.”

And if you feel like training for the event is a stumbling block, we have taken care of that for you. Free training classes are available to both runners and walkers.

Runners and walkers are invited to attend training runs held Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Participants meet at Bellin Health’s Green Bay Health & Athletic Performance Center, 1630 Commanche Ave. (west reception area).

New this year, an additional training session just for walkers is held Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Bellin Health Bellevue Fitness Center, 3263 Eaton Road, Green Bay.

We hope to see you on June 9.
