Annual run/walk offers new option to gift signups

Shoppers seeking that unique holiday gift can now delight family members, friends and others with a paid registration to the 2012 Bellin Run.

Online signup for the 36th annual run/walk event officially opened late Thursday. New this year is the ability to buy registrations for family, friends, co-workers and others.

“What a neat holiday gift a Bellin Run registration would make,” said executive race director Randy Van Straten. “I can just imagine our Bellin Run veterans and others who have had recent experiences with the run/walk gifting registrations to people they want to participate with during this annual community health and fitness event.

“We’re excited to be able to provide this healthy and unique gift idea just in time for the holidays,” Van Straten said.

The Bellin Run is scheduled to take place at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 9. The 6.2-mile run/walk traditionally takes place on the second Saturday of June.

Online registration for the 2011 Bellin Run is $20 through Tuesday, May 15. The Children's Run is $12. Online registration closes on Thursday, June 7. All registrants receive an official 2012-style Bellin Run T-shirt.

To purchase a gift registration, visit www.bellinrun.com and click on the “Register Online” tab. Click on the “Buy Registration as a Gift” tab on the right side of the page and follow the registration instructions.

Gifting a Bellin Run registration works much like a buying a gift certificate, so you don’t need to know the recipient’s detailed registration information. You will receive a printable certificate with a promo code to be used by the recipient of the registration. They can then enter their own information.

“It’s a great way to encourage Bellin Run participation by family, friends and colleagues and a sure-fire way to help keep health and fitness top of mind during a period when many New Year’s resolutions are focused on getting fit, reducing weight and making healthier lifestyle choices,” Van Straten said.

The 2011 Bellin Run recorded 18,701 registrants – the largest registration field ever for the event.
