Online registration rising for Bellin Run

April 20, 2011

Online registration for the Bellin Run appears to be growing this year as more registrants take advantage of early registration and the cheaper sign-up fee.

As of Tuesday, the Bellin Run’s online registrations were 4,363, compared to 3,175 on the same day in 2010. Pen and paper registrations have not yet been tallied.

Online registration is open through June 9. It kicked off on January 1 in time for traditional New Year’s fitness resolutions.

Registrants signing up online for the 8 a.m. Saturday, June 11 race pay $18, that’s $3 less than those doing it via mail-in registration. Likewise, online registration for the Children’s Run is $10. Mail-in registration for the Children’s Run is $13.

Adult online and mail-in registration fees rise to $23 and $26, respectively, after May 15. Click here for more registration information.

The Bellin Run has seen record registration numbers for the last six consecutive years. Last year the Bellin Run drew 18,398 registrants. A rankings list in the 2011 Running USA Conference Guide & Running Yearbook placed the Bellin Run among the top 15 largest 10K road races in the United States.

Race organizers say they are prepared to host an even larger field this year, although it’s not a goal to continuously grow the event.

To ensure a smoother start to the race experience, a corral system will be used prior to the race’s start to “line up” participants by their anticipated pace. At the starting gun, the continuous line of participants on the surrounding streets will move forward until all runners and walkers have crossed the start line.

This format will allow a smooth, safe and efficient start, with the opportunity for peak performance. It’s an improvement over last year’s format that experienced frustrating bottlenecks and kept many race participants static for extended periods of time.

The Bellin Run starts and finishes on Webster Avenue in front of Bellin Hospital. The 6.2-mile run/walk weaves through the streets of Green Bay and Allouez.
