Why I run the Bellin Run: Kristin Roth, El Dorado Hills, Calif.

May 12, 2011

I am excited to say that this is my third year running the Bellin Run.

I was a spectator for the 2008 Bellin Run while I was pregnant with my third child. I was inspired! I never considered myself a runner and as I watched thousands of people run by, I set a goal that “someday” I would run the Bellin Run (I forgot to mention that I live in California, so it required a bit more planning).

Well, in October of 2008 our third child was born and I used the goal of running the Bellin Run in June as my motivation to get back to pre-pregnancy shape. I was so proud to have my husband and three kids there to cheer me on at mile 1 and mile 4 and to have achieved the goal for myself.

As I trained for last year's race and now again this year, I notice my 5- and 6-year-old sons are interested in my running and my 2-year-old daughter is always saying, “I run like Mommy!”  This is my new reason for flying to Green Bay from California to run – to set a healthy example for my kids.

Personal fitness and health have always been important to me and completing the Bellin in under an hour was a great accomplishment, but to pass that healthy spirit on as an example to my kids is an achievement that will live on.
